Wishlist for summer!

It would seem that any spare moments I have alone with my laptop, I can be found lusting after clothes, and my obsessions seem to change with the tide, not healthy for my bank balance. At the moment however, I have pretty clear ideas on my summer wardrobe, so I thought I’d do a quick wish list to share some of those ideas!

All of my thoughts have been mostly centering on three themes:

Anything midi…

I’ve been dreaming of a full white midi skirt for some time. One that’s really poofy and 1950s ish… But nothing seems to quite fit my ideas! However, this ZARA faux leather one comes pretty close in shape, and the interesting material is just an added bonus. Skirts in scuba material, as above and here from boohoo, might also fit the bill, as well as this textured midi from Asos and pleated from Topshop. I just can’t decide. If only you could try on the interenet!

Monochrome

Black and white in check and spots, in swingy dresses and pretty playsuits.. with matching shoes too! Yes please. Oh and not forgetting bright white nails.

Prints!

Summer is tantalisingly close! And summer is always the time for prints. We steer away from the plain black and grey of Winter, and turn to prints that genuinely make us happy. But no classic disty florals, it’s time for the big bold prints! I’m loving anything bright and tropical and am currently obsessed with leopard print (genuinely had a dream about leopard printed sliders).  This recent Instagram basically sums up my feelings…

The simple things

My goodness it’s been a while. Once again, I’m terribly sorry for being such a bad blogger. It would seem spare time is a luxury I don’t currently have.

But anyway! Pay cheque in the other day, I spent quite a lot of money. But I was careful not to spend lots of money on one or two items, but instead, to pack my wardrobe with the simple things that I desperately need. My serious lack of dresses needed to be fixed. So this outfit is one of those simple ones, consisting of a dress and boots, that can be mixed up with belts and jackets and jewellery.

A jumper dress just seems perfect for this kind of weather, and I think I may be a little obsessed with navy stripes already. Spring makes it totally ok to dress up like sailors.. :)

I keep having brief flirtations with girly,  with blouses and floaty dresses. And then going straight back to boyish. The backwards cap has returned, as has my once beloved denim jacket. Quite fittingly, my boyfriend actually inspired this outfit, I was so excited I had to run out and take photos before the sun set. Which it promptly did midway through my shoot.

 There’s noting like being totally comfortable and happy in what you’re wearing, and apparently boyish is where I’m most comfortable. So admittedly the skirt, chunky, soft-as-soft-can-be cardi and cobalt nails (and boyfriend too) are all new, but the rest are just my old favourites. It would seem I may never stray too far from blue denim and caps… d

So there it is, New Year (almost), new post about Katie being exactly the same as she always was :). Here’s to consistency..

Deep ocean

DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS!

Any recent attempted blog shoots have been ruined by wind and rain and the odd patch of flooding. Luckily, this particular shoot was only almost ruined by wind. And no rain. Hurrah!

I’ve always known I have a penchant for men’s clothing, this lovely massive jumper from Fat Face, is absolutely no exception. Along with my new favourite skirt ever, and motorcycle boots, no wind can stop me!

The leather mini-skirt story goes like this. My lovely friend Jas asks me what I consider to be the Winter equivalent to pretty summer dresses, comfy, and always look nice. I go shopping (for research purposes) and return like a triumphant hunter with a pretty piece of PU saying “mum! I’ve got it! Winter staple sorted!” absolutely confidant that my legs are comfy and pretty like a dress in summer. Mother laughs in my face. Apparently leather mini-skirts might get chilly (and if worn wrong could make you look like Julia Roberts as Pretty Woman) and therefore couldn’t possibly qualify. I am determined to prove her wrong.

Typically, I can’t find the skirt on the ZARA website. But Missguided do some pretty good copies here and here which I’d like to share, since I honestly think every girl should own one :)

Winter is upon us! Autumnal berry hues and earthy tones have turned into black and blue and purple. With silver and gold accessories and pints of blackcurrant and vanilla tea to match. So my joy when wandering round ZARA the other week, to come across this midnight blue long-sleeved, low back piece of sartorial genius, was incomparable! It’s soft and slinky, and surprisingly warming. Worn with suitably blue boyfriend jeans, or leather mini skirts, it won’t disappoint.

Because the top is plain though, I thought it would best suit a heavy necklace like this one to go with. I first wore this about 2 years ago and since then, it’s always just felt like too much! But for some reason, with this, it just works! I think I like how it’s a charcoal grey instead of bright silver, makes it look less dressy? I like these similar ones from Topshop, some brand from America, ZARA and Urban Outfitters.

Smockin it…

It has been AGES since I last posted. But it’s ok, I have reasons! I have a job (a fairly brilliant job) that makes me work very anti-social hours. I get free things (almost) and get to work with great people, BUT it means I’m almost never around at the same time as the sunshine to take outfit posts. Oops. Last day off however, me and the sunshine did manage a quick rendezvous in celebration of my new obsession: SMOCK DRESSES!

This one is handmade, from a lovely little stall in the market that appears in my hometown on Saturdays. It’s made from daisy material and has a swingy little line across the chest. But isn’t it fun to put on a hat, some layers and a pair of boots and float around like you’re in the 60s? I think yes…

Boyfriend

I don’t have many curves. The ones I do have, I’ve spent so many stressful years trying to find ways to unleash, by means of tighter-than-is-healthy belts and size-down trousers etc, that the idea of a baggy pair of jeans, is just mental. High-waist and skin-tight, is my friend. Baggy…. can piss off. (‘scuse my French).

My biggest fear in life (exaggeration) is that I’ll buy a pair of jeans and they’ll get all loose and unflattering and I’ll need to buy some more. However…

Boyfriend jeans. I know, I’m late to the party. But to be honest, I’ve been trying to like them for months. So many times have I gone into Urban and tried on the BDBG pair, that seem to have lived on almost all of my wishlists, and every time thought EUGH! But then something magical happened.
.
I don’t know if it’s because my body shape changed, or my eye sight got worse and I just need glasses (really quite possible), but I went in the other day and tried on the standard BDBG pair, and they looked…not eugh! And I started dancing round to the music and swishing my hair and trying on other cool things like more crop tops (damn you winter) and awesomely oversized check shirts, and I started feeling pretty awesome (dancing in the changing room always induces a certain feeling of awesomeness… no?)

So, I went home (can’t afford the BDBG pair) and found these!!

I love stomping around in the thick stiff denim. My mum thinks they’re “alternative” and pretty “out there”. Her exact words when I opened the package were “whaat…. whaatt??”. And now I feel so brave wearing slightly un-conventional denim! I think the rest of my quaint little home town is almost as unnerved as my mother.

But you know what, they’re NOT shapeless! They’re tight in all the right places, and baggy where they don’t need to be tight = comfy! Like skinny round the waist (I OWN A WAIST!) and baggy at the hips (I also own hips). I thought it would be impossible to wear them with anything but crop tops and heels, but no! You can mix it up and wear trainers and baggy jumpers. All things I thoroughly intend to do soon enough. I have a feeling they may become my Winter wardrobe staple.

Sorry these photos are a bit dodgy, I’m working on getting a new camera. Until then, you may just have to put up with it!

Wishlist! What will happen when I have some money….

Essentially what will happen when I get money, is that I will spend it all. ALL of it. I think this is sensible.

Wishlists are dangerous. Any time I run out of money, buying new things all of a sudden becomes very important to me. And I get fully obsessed with ideas and plans for my new wardrobe! So I sit on Pinterest scheming how to sell my kidneys or my hair (it’s legit, I’ve looked it up, it might well happen). For example, this season it was this dress and check shirt combo that haunted me. Hence this instagram, and this pinterest board. I KNOW the dress existed, I saw it with my OWN EYEBALLS. And yet, it is now nowhere to be found. (If someone can find it for me, then I will pay you in cookies, many, many cookies).

My current wish list though, for some reason, has turned out fully black and blue. Never have I created ANYTHING with such little colour.. I’m quite surprised with myself. Nevertheless, I can’t wait to buy it all.

Add a little more leather, more fur, purpley berry lips and a few times as many pretty dresses and you’re there.

I’m actually amazed some of these are still in stock. Particularly the check skirt and Topshop coat! The shoes are the big wants though. I need a new pair of boots, my old Topshop ones are so tatty, they seriously need replacing. I love the whole cut-out boot thing. But the contrast sole was not something I expected to like! I’m obsessed. The Forever 21 ones, which are totally gorgeous, might be the ones I get so that I have one chunky pair and one non-chunky pair, you know, just in case I’m feeling non-chunky… (you can see how I run out of money so quickly right?)

The leather/suedey skirt and the lingerie dress are the two others I’m really pining after. I love how weirdly interesting the skirt is! And I realised I probably don’t have that many skirts or dresses, so I think I should stock up. Patterned smocks are gonna be in there too.

Anyway, life with me has been unbelievably busy, interviews and spontaneous trips to Bournemouth (did you know it has a beach?!) have kept me away from the blog.. But some exciting updates and hopefully lots more outfit posts to come, so bare with me..

I said in my last outfit post that I’d been wearing a lot of black recently. I honestly could not tell you why, perhaps it’s the days getting darker, or because I’m a little obsessed with these jeans! But my mother is convinced I’m in mourning, or planning to re-visit my emo stage (another story…). Either way, all black is not something I’ve done before, except in school plays or waitressing, but I am definitely enjoying it, even if it does make me look/feel like a giant stick of liquorice.

5 Things to do on Halloween!!

I’m a very festive person. I absolutely love celebrating things, AND I love dressing up. When I was a child, I wore more fancy dress than real clothes. I’m pretty sure I pioneered the onsie. I had a dalmatian suit (inc. tail, a replica of which mysteriously appeared in Primark a while later.. after mine went missing!!) that I wore every day, until I was soo big for it, it split. My collection of fairy costumes, were next to none. I even had a dark one for Halloween, or when I was in a bad mood.
IMAG5114-001But I’m going off topic.. Because today is an exciting day, and one of several coming up this season, here is a list of 5 things I think will make it even more exciting.

1. Halloween-themed nails! I have no doubt that I’m pretty far behind in developing my nail-art talents, and that you will all be much more adept at drawing fun things on your nails. So make the most of this opportunity!! To go crazy with nail art and celebrate.. I like Lily’s post, but also, do some googling and see what you can come up with.

2. Get creative with costumes! Take tights for instance. With one pair, you can make a top- cut out the crotch and feet, rip it up a little and you have cobweb lady/vampire/generally gothy scary thing! Fishnets are extra specially effective for Halloween.  With one pair, some bundles of old socks and wire you can make a cat’s tail. With 4 pairs, some loo-rolls and maybe some wire/coat hangers you can make a handsome set of spiders legs! sorted.

IMAG51043. Walk around town in costume: Don’t be shy. This is a day for being silly if nothing else. And, if you go to Sainsbury’s in full costume, face paint, additional props e.g. vampire teeth, I guarantee you’ll make someone’s day.

4. Watch a scary movie: This goes without saying. Grab a toffee apple, some spooky shaped sweeties, a good friend or two and turn all the lights off till you’re well and truly spooked.

5, “boo” people: I have spent all of today hiding behind doors and jumping out at Dad, Mum, Rodney, Tutu, Sam the Plumber… funnest day. EVER!

Additional Halloween points! Tim Burton-themed cocktails, animals/children dressed up, imaginative costumes. I will give a whole bucket of sweets to anyone who can effectively pull off a White Walker costume.
